Hello and Happy Holidays:?ÿ
I am considering converting my infrared driven Topcon 825gts robotic, to work with the Parani SD1000 blue tooth. I understand that a data collector MUST be blue tooth compatible.?ÿ Is there anyone out there who has experience with this ??ÿ I'd like to get all of the facts and make sure I am making the correct purchases before diving in.?ÿ My current Data collector unit is a TDS ranger (Trimble TSC2)?ÿ with NO blue tooth card.?ÿ
Software is TDS 4.6 I think.?ÿ ?ÿI also have a Hemisphere CW400 running Carlson 4.07 GPS only, but this unit is bluetooth ready.?ÿ ?ÿ I wonder If I have to upgrade Data Collectors to something more recent ??ÿ ?ÿI have seen videos where guys use an older Trimble Robot and a Remcon ?? data collector.?ÿ It looks pretty slick.?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿI really don't have 15k to drop on a newer (used) robotic gun.?ÿ
If anyone has Ideas or experience they are willing to share, I'd be very happy to hear from you.?ÿ ?ÿ Happy Holidays?ÿ ?ÿstay warm and safe?ÿ
Dave?ÿ
I understand that a data collector MUST be blue tooth compatible.
Only if you plan to use internal BT.?ÿ The wonderful thing about the Paranis is that a pair of them, once configured, act just like a serial cable.?ÿ So if your DC and your gun can be connected and operated by a serial cable terminated by 9-pin D-sub connectors, you can replace that cable with a pair of Paranis and effectively make the "cable" about 1500 feet long (longer with the right antennas, shorter with more compact antennas).?ÿ
The hard part is that the SD1000 isn't a turnkey solution -- you have to provide power (there are options), physical protection (they're not bulletproof), and be able to configure them (not hard, but you have to pay attention to the manual).
There are some pre-packaged solutions available; one of them is the Microsurvey FieldHawk.?ÿ Might be worth looking into if you aren't inclined to cobble together your own.
Jim,?ÿ
So the rover data collector should have bluetooth ??ÿ Which my current Ranger does not have.?ÿ
I'm thinking that the Field Hawks may be a great option.?ÿ ?ÿOR pay a topcon dealer to add the parani's?ÿ but they say i need a different data collector.?ÿ The new technology is great but wow, they arent simple anymore.?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿI'll sleep on it and ask more questions.?ÿ
Thanks Jim?ÿ?ÿ
Merry Christmas?ÿ
Go to Geo-tronics.com they sell a blue tooth for Topcon 800 robot and your DC.

After doing a bevy of internet study, I may have discovered the parani connection issue with the old top on.?ÿ Apparently when the topcon is in cable mode, it expects data with 7 odd 1 .?ÿ In remote, it's 8 odd 1 .?ÿ ?ÿThe parani doesn't support the 7 stop bits.?ÿ They suggest using 8 odd,?ÿ however, no-one has been able to use the TDC2 (tds ranger) , with the parani.?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ I did find?ÿ video in Spanish that seems to indicate a cross wiring to make it work.?ÿ ?ÿI just need to find it again and find a translator.?ÿ My other option is to take the $1500 that topcon is offering and put it towards a trimble 5600 series used system, with a recon data collector .?ÿ I do 95% of my work with Gnss . A slow robotic wouldn't be a deal breaker as its used to fill in took or set points that are GNSS unfriendly.?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ You seem to have a good handle on your robotic system.?ÿ ?ÿDo you use a Bluetooth system ??ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ Oh I'll find that trimble 4000 static patch for you if trimble still has it on their web page.?ÿ
Do you use a Bluetooth system ?
Yes, I have a GeoMax Zoom80R with BT handle and a Carlson Surveyor+ with a Parani SD1000.?ÿ They play nicely together.
My day-to-day work mix is the mirror image of yours:?ÿ 90% total station, 10% RTK.?ÿ (I do take on an occasional large-scale static project, but they're not the norm.)
Lee.?ÿ I got a hold of geo-tronics .Indeed they have a product however suddenly my TSC2 DECIDED to go to a flashing black screen.?ÿ In was instructed to remove the battery, place it on the charger over night then try again.?ÿ ?ÿ It looks like the battery is shot?ÿ ?ÿ
Oh well.?ÿ Story of my like .If anything gets bettet, I'll let you know?ÿ
