Recently on a survey in an older section of town on the county line, I encountered some interesting monumentation. I worked up our lot in SPC to expedite our search for corners in the plat. Started out at our lot corners, found both out "front" across the fence line that borders the state park adjacent to the lot. A couple of 5/8" rebars, nothing exciting. Went to the plat corner and found what I thought was junk at first, but upon further inspection turned out to be an old railroad tie that was cut/weathered and buried about a foot down. These were commonly used for corners in this area and often times when they're used they're better evidence than the brand new shiny rod next to it. I found another RxR tie towards the rear of the lot later on an offset at the TOB of the river. The tie at the plat corner fit the rods to .12, and on down the road to the east we went. At the next lot down we dug up of couple 1" iron pipes that fit the buried wood within .30. Last but not least was to make the trek, all of 832' north to the 1/4 corner. Only published coords on it were in 72', and after a little translating/rotating we walked right to it through old and for the most part, untouched Florida. Found with the same scribed marks as described in the most recent CCR on 02/11/1981. The rods at our lot and the tie were on line with the 1/4 cor. and the tie fit the distance to the 1/4 to .15. Not a bad day in the field for working hodge podge control.
