Hey all

Last summer I worked a boundary survey in Mississippi. The day was very hot and humid. I broke for lunch and calcs in the truck for a while. During that time, I left the Nikon DTM 522 set up during that time. When I was finished with my break I returned to the instrument. It wouldn't power up. I changed batteries, still no power. It was like inside of the instrument overheated from the sun. I had to pack up and head back to the office. I put the instrument away. Next day, I check the instrument and it powers up. However, all my settings were wiped out. Also, the communication settings were compromised. So, I've reset the settings but cannot get the total station to communicate with the data collector. Total Station: Menu>Settings>Communications>'Nikon' or 'Set'. No other options. I've consulted the manual. No help. Thing is, I've never seen nor heard of a total station overheating and basically 're-booting' itself. Any body out there know what to do? Probably going to have to take the instrument in for service. Tanks. Matt.

I never doubt what Murphy's law can come up with to derail best intentions.
I spent a week before tracing down a wrong setting that kept my TS from communicating.
Turned out I was using a wire snd TS was set to Bluetooth.
Your problem is probably different, does not mean that you won't have to go thru the whole manual to find a fix.
Look at the screen carefully and see what indicator lights are on and what they represent.
Good luck

Also dont discount crook cable.
Could have been the problem that caused your Nikon to freak out.
Or they both decided to spit the dummy at same time.

Somewhere in there are settings for baud rate and parity, you just need to find them. There also may be a setting for internal or external data collection.
