So I'm buying a new Trimble data collector with access software as part of an S5 robot package. I've heard that it's possible to get a version of access that will run a robot but not a GPS. As in the GPS capabilities of the software have to be paid for and turned on in order to pair it with a gps head. Does that sound accurate? How do I know if I'm getting a dc that will run a gps?

Tell your dealer what you need the DC to be for. They will get you the TSC3 with the right hardware to run gps and also the right version of access.

I know SP has different versions. One with just robotics and one that has robotics/gps

No that's not accurate; all TSC3s with Access will run both GPS and robotics. There are no options for Access except modules like Roads and Pipelines that provide additional functionality.

There are limited versions but they're found on Slate controllers and the like. All TSC3s and Trimble Tablets are fully functional right out of the box - at least in the US, I can't speak to other markets.

Like Lee said, the Slate's are GNSS only.

Like Lee said, as far as I know the same for Europe.

Actually I'm not sure you're right. you can buy a tsc3 without the radio to run robots. I have one that I bought years ago at a foolish time when we weren't interested in robots. it doesn't save much money so I recommend against it.

Well of course not all TSC3s have the robotic radio built in, the question was about Access not hardware.

But technically you're correct... not ALL TSC3s will run the robots, you need the radio.
