Simple in TGO but can't figure out how in TBC.

I have three long OPUS sessions on a control point (fit into a cm box). So I'd like to combine them into one point. Its easy to insert into TBC if you have the OPUS XML output, you can just import them, works slick.

OK, the help says I can merge points and there is an option to average the points. I go through the instructions everything works fine until I'm supposed to get a green check mark and a red dot to process. Well no dice. At this point it won't do it.

So a little simple math isn't so hard, I'll just Average my X, Y & Z and insert the point manually. No problem, in TGO done it for years.

Well TBC won't let me change over to input a coordinate in X, Y & Z. What's with that? X, Y & Z is the basic coordinate system for the whole GPS. I can get the X, Y and Z in reports all over the place in TBC. But I can't input a X, Y & Z coordinate.

So If anyone knows the secret to X, Y & Z input into TBC, could you please clue me in.

I suppose I'll need to average the SPC's or lat, long and elev and get on with it. Am I the only one that likes the simplicity of using X, Y & Z when convenient? There has got to be way!

I haven't made the switch to TBC, but when and if I do I will likely call upon Michael McInnis at System Dividends and attend one of his seminars. I am not affiliated with them in any way, but have attended numerous seminars of his and the guy is really good. He is in CO, but does go wherever he needs to.

I just got an email from him and there is a 3 day session in Phoenix coming up, and it is affordable. I'm thinking about making the plunge, but....

Absolute vs. Relative Antenna Calibrations
Mark Armstrong, Oregon NGS Advisor
10:30 -10:45 Break
10:45 -12:00 Understanding Geoids
Dan Hoekstra, Statewide Land Surveying
12:00 - 1:00 Catered Lunch
1:00 - 4:30 Best GPS Practices Panel
Static GPS: Herb Farber, Farber Surveying
RTK GPS: Ken Murto, David Evans and Associates
Real-time Network GPS: Ken Bays, ODOT
Airborne GPS: Shelby Griggs, Orbitech
GIS GPS: Jim Lahm, Electronic Data Solutions

I was not able to enter XYZs either, looks like the only way is to convert XYZ to LLH first: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/xyz_getgp.prl (it converts on NAD83 ellipsoid)

You mean like UTM or SPCS? Check project settings then when you input the point select local or grid instead of global for input type. Or I could have completely missed what you're asking for.

I been trying most of the day.

If you want or need ECEF data or reports, I don't believe you can get it from TBC. You can't list it or export it. You can't get any ECEF reports. I far as I can tell you can't even develop custom reports like you could in TGO. They added some neat stuff to TBC but it appears to me they took more away.

Unless it comes with the advanced program key, it's not much of a program if you are into geodetic data processing.

Mostly agreed, of course TBC is much more powerful than TGO, it's just figuring out where all the buttons are. Are you running the latest version?

Yeah, I got the latest, just bought it about a month ago. Upgraded all the way.

You can get vector delta X, Y & Z. I've gone and turned everything on in the report options. Yup deltas but no straight X, Y & Z (ECEF) coordinate for a point. Got the vector but no coordinates for even one end. I don't want to go to some third software to convert either. Why can't I just get it?

It's gotta be there somewhere, about knocked my brains out trying to get it out.

Back to beating my head against the wall...............

Not calling you a liar but with all the custom report options I am amazed there is no ECEF option.

export in XYZ can be done, File->Export Format Editor->New-> 3times next -> in the Fields choose X(ECEF) same for Y andZ.

It is possible to import points from a file same way in File->Import Format Editor.

It can take XYZ but it still shows points as LLH after points are imported in TBC, and I still could not enter manually XYZ points.

After a search of the HELP index for ECEF I'd noticed that maybe ECEF could be imported/exported. Tried a bit but didn't get through it.

Thanks for the tip, it's not what I'd hoped for but at least there is a workaround!!

I feel your pain. After many moons of working hard and figuring them out for myself, I'm actually breaking down and taking a 1 day class in TBC in about a week and a half. This monster is too big to not know about the pitfalls. I've already made several mistakes, but my field procedures have allowed me to "catch" them and I've actually continued working in TGO.
