next time go with a Ford- It'll outlast the box. 😀
every ford I have ever had I had to replace the tranny at 50k. i had a nissan that all i ever did was replace brake till 205k.
This reminds me of the old farmer's joke about the old farmer taking his favorite, but very old, pickup to the mechanic. After the mechanic checked out all sorts of things the old farmer asked him what he would recommend. The mechanic said, "Jack up the radiator cap and put a new pickup under it."
That's funny. I have heard that one before.
I know the day is coming for my pickup. It is a 2001 F150 Supercrew 4x4. It has about 227K on it, but is still running and pulling strong. Original everything except a few coil packs, alternator, and heater core. It still looks very good, both inside and out.
I do my very best to take care of it.
I would check Craigslist or the used auto ads. That body style should be fairly easy to find a decent work vehicle.
I know when the day comes that my pickup dies, I will drop a new motor or transmission in it, and keep on rolling. I have a backup truck, (1997 Chevy C1500), that I use for errands. Both look pretty good, and are hopefully going to keep serving me well for awhile. I am just not ready for a new truck note just yet.
Good luck, I know I was a little stressed last week when my F150 was in the shop getting the heater core replaced. There is always something that you need and you left it in the other truck!
My last Chevrolet (2007 Silverado 1500 2WD) required a complete auto trans overhaul at 60,000.....
However, my brother has a 2003 Chevrolet 3500 dually with... 710,000 miles on it.... he's on his 2nd engine (duramax diesel) & 3rd trans (allison auto)... until a year ago, this truck was used 100% for cross country towing... truck still runs strong
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you...
thanks for your help
need engine on the way
thanks for your help
The last two trucks I bought for myself I found on autotrader.com
Both times I was looking for a manual transmission. Got one in Tulsa and a few years later got the other in Amarillo.
If you are getting a Chevy or GMC, make sure it has the external transmission cooler. It makes a world of difference in the life of the transmission.

It doesn't matter what brand. An extra Tranny Cooler makes the transmissions last longer. An over size radiator and an external oil cooler makes engines last longer.
I normally spring for the few extra bucks to buy a truck with the HD towing package, whether buying new or used.
