The Professional Surveyors Association of Nebraska (PSAN) will be having their 2015 Summer Seminar at Fort Robinson State Park on July 17. The former military reservation is now a vast state park and is located in a very beautiful area in the northwest corner of the state. Bison and longhorn cattle roam the area and there are some very challenging places to hike. See a well preserved cavalry fort with lots of historical features well preserved and open to the public. This is going to be an outdoors seminar which will involve a chaining contest, hand level contest, pacing contest, searching for 1882 section corners, and rebuilding old cast iron boundary posts.
I will be in charge of the groups who rebuild the cast iron posts. Many of these posts have been stolen over the years. Of those still existing, some are leaning badly and others are lying on the ground. This will be a unique opportunity to get out of the classroom and do some "hands on" historical surveying. There will be 8.5 hours of possible professional development hours for registrants.
The photos below are ones I took on a reconnaissance trip I made two weeks ago.
The link below is to the pdf of the flyer for the seminar where I posted it on my website. Hope to meet some of you there!

Beautiful photos.
Right down the road from Pine Ridge Ranger District, Nebraska National Forest & Oglala National Grassland. Mrs. Cow has a sister-in-law employed near the top of the heap there. You might say she's in the loop. Lives in nearby Chadron. That's nearby based on Nebraska's sense of relativity, not New Yorker sense of relativity. Anyone headed to Fort Robinson might enjoy these other two opportunities as well.
I agree
