Another head scratcher....

The PLSS intended for which line to be 80 chains?

E line of section 20

S line of section 24

N line of section 30

E line of section 4

I believe that the meridional lines according to the manual were held in higher regard than the parallels, so I think it is the E line of 20 ? ? ?

Thought alot about this one....

Any input would be appreciated

I'm in agreement with you on this one.
Even after forty years, I still have to think about what sections are where. I need to get the picture in my head if I can't see it on paper.
Once I get it, though...well, just watch out cause I'm seldom wrong:-)

Anyway, I think you're right.

Yepper, the east line of section 20, assuming everything else is "normal", is 80 chains. All the others are closing lines and/or random & true.

Must agree. That is the only case where they stop their line on their own. The others are controlled by existing lines/monuments.

Hello Brian,

Thats what I was thinking but it was not that clear at the time. I thought there might be something more to it, kind of overthinking it. In any event I always appreciate your input.

Thanks, rlshound
