Being convicted of a crime of "moral turpitude" can cause one to lose their license in Kentucky.
I know that I have read in the past of licensees being on probation or having a license revoked for substance addiction issues.
A developer I do a good bit of work for recently had a need of getting a couple of lots they purchased surveyed. It is several hours away, so I suggested getting in touch with the original surveyor of the lots.
After a few calls, it turns out the original surveyor is in prison for murder and lost one appeal already (went from a 20 year sentence to a 25 year sentence on appeal). So I look on the licensing website and find that the fellow's license was not suspended or revoked, but merely lapsed into not being current on renewal.
I know morality is very subjective, but my personally ranking is that murder is way up the list above any addiction problem.
Sounds like the folks at the board office don't know the person is in prison.
I know last year in West Virginia the board refused to renew a license because the person was behind in paying his child support.

Murder surely qualifies
Maybe they don't really worry about it until you get out and want to earn a living with your license. Who knows, maybe you will be pardoned by the governor or something.
Murder surely qualifies
Maybe the victim was someone who did Alta's for $698..... just sayin'.....
In Florida the Board will check to make sure that you are current with any outstanding child support obligations before you can renew your license.
I agree that murder should be way up there on the "get-your-shingle-yanked-and-burned" list.
In Oklahoma a surveyor or engineer will lose his license:
3. Conviction of or entry of a plea of guilty or nolo contendere
to any crime under the laws of the United States, or any state
or territory thereof, which is a felony, whether related to
practice or not; and conviction of or entry of a plea of guilty
or nolo contendere to any crime, whether a felony, misdemeanor,
or otherwise, an essential element of which is dishonesty or
which is related to the practice of engineering or land surveying.
I believe murder is a felony in Oklahoma.
Interestingly, in this great State, an attorney can be convicted of a felony and still practice before the bar; unless the felony is considered heinous or morally reprehensible...hmmmm...I wonder if an attorney wrote that part in...

I've had 2 friends in the past go to jail for child support. I've never understood how that is supposed to work. Pulling your professional (or driver's) license or jailing someone because they haven't paid makes zero sense to me. If one cannot do their job because their license gets pulled, or a driver's license suspended or go to jail, then how can they possibly make any attempt at all to make any money to try to make good.
Garnish their wages or leins on property - fine. But to render someone unable to earn any money at all (or make it extremely difficult) just seems contrary to me.
..... just my thoughts....

There is quite a list of crimes that involve moral turpitude. Seems like another case of - if you have a good lawyer - the D.A. will have to make a case.

Debtor's Prison, Eric...
was something that was considered barbaric and abolished in Europe by the late 1800s.
But in an ever "evolving" world, it seems as though private creditors can manipulate the system and put us back in time...
my, my, my...we've sure come a long way.
Number 8 is hilarious
CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON FOUND TO INVOLVE MORAL TURPITUDE (CIMT)
8. Mayhem
There are a number of surveyors in Oklahoma that could be guilty of this infraction simply by performing their personal brand of surveying.:pinch:

Payden, that is funnnnny! And, I do think that those kind of surveyors do need to be turned into MAYHEM!

Sounds like another rouge fence surveyor.:-X
While he may be red-faced, I think you meant to use the word "rogue".

How does pulling someone's license "render them unable to make any money at all"? That's like saying that ANYONE in the entire U.S. that is not a PLS cannot make any money. It has been my experience that just the opposite is true. $695 for a full blown ALTA doesn't put a lot of groceries on the table you know.
Professional Licenses are looked at as "priveledge" licenses, just like your driver's license. They are not an automatic "gimme". They can be pulled at any time for any violation of regulations or public law. You can lose your license for an "ethics violation". This is true for any and all PROFESSIONAL positions that require registration. To be a PROFESSIONAL, you are expected to operate under certain guidelines. Perhaps this is why the general public has a problem with seeing surveyors as PROFESSIONALS?

I did not read all the details, but that is possible. The victim was another surveyor!!

Read your contract, Miss Honeywell.
I'll have you fired for moral turpitude.
You can take your moral turpitude and you can stick it up the old gazoo, Beulah.
Gee, Lynn, I don't know. "Moral turpitude".
Moral Turpitude??!!!
Well that eliminates all surveyors south of Delaware...bam!:-X
Moral Turpitude??!!!
It eliminates some Yankee surveyors too, the carpetbaggers, and other promoters of "The war of northern aggression"! After the civil war, they burned churches, and caused mayhem, in general.
