I have five miles of line to stake. It requires looking for 11 corners since it's all along section lines. I found 9 of the 11 on Friday and was missing only two of them. I had looked for a 1/4 on a north-south line and didn't find it. There was a concrete and brass cap bench mark and I wondered if there was any chance it was placed at the 1/4 corner since it was due north and 2639' from the found stone to the south. It wasn't listed on the NGS site and looking through my old records didn't turn anything up. So I went to the field and decided to stake the line between the two section corners and when I got near the bench mark I looked one more time:
Don't know why I missed it the other times I looked, I think that big concrete monument must have got too much of my attention. There are other stones nearby and I had picked through all of them. But as soon as I saw it I knew exactly what it is.?ÿ
The 11th stone that I was missing I found later in the day. It was less obvious, since it was covered up by dirt and I was able to find it using a shovel and poking around. I can't recall finding all the original stones for this big a project.?ÿ
Time to buy a bunch of lottery tickets.
