Believe it or not...........that's the proper category for the following bit of news:

IN THE MATTER OF E. TOM PYLE, JR., ARCHITECT
Status: In the April 2012 edition of this newsletter, it was reported that a Final Order
had been issued in the matter of E. Tom Pyle, Jr. and that Mr. Pyle had filed a Petition
for Judicial Review of Final Agency Action with the Shawnee County District Court. As
a result of that petition, the Final Order of the Board was reversed by the court and all
sanctions were set aside.

That bit of news was contained in the latest newsletter from the the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions (including surveying). In all the years of reading these newsletters, which routinely include blistering reports on punishment being dealt out to bad people, this is the only time I recall a Court reversing a decision by the Board. Numerous attempts have been made by others, but, somehow this case is unique. The standard Court response is to confirm that standard procedure was applied by the Board and therefore they refuse to either hear or hear and reverse the Board's decision. It is interesting that the reversal announcement is so brief when the standard listing of a miscreant's deeds can fill an entire page.

On a totally separate note, this newsletter mentioned that the licensing of engineers in Kansas began in 1931. The first land surveyor license was issued in January of 1969. It was also announced that we are no longer a "licensed surveyor" but are now a "professional surveyor". Dang, I guess this means I'll have to buy a new stamp.
