I was resetting a corner and the client pulled up, I had not met her till then. She is the heir to about 20 acres of an absolute mess. It is good land but because of her husband and the prevailing attitude of many around here the deeds overlap and it is terrible. Her husband apparently did his own surveying and wrote his own deeds. That was quite common until recently and still happens on occasion.
I was hired to cut out 2 acres and I did not have to survey all of it, just enough to establish the bounds and a tie and the client is going to kick the can down the road.
She is 80 years old and she told me her "husband left her this mess and if he was still alive she would kill him".
So, it's a good thing you told her, up front, what it's going to cost...
Definitely, and even better that I did not have the need to go up on the estimate.
