Worked a very large acreage that was being cut up into smaller lots. First task that day was three or four of us walking the exterior boundary, recovering what irons and control had been set, re-brushing the old line as we went.

One of my co-workers noted, as we passed a 16" dead pine, with the top quarter gone, ?ÿ'That tree's fixin' to come down'. Just like anything being said as we were working our way down that line.

Fast forward - after lunch it was my task to stake that exterior line, but our bipod and prism pole was slowly making it's way to another part of the project, and it took a few minutes to retrieve it and get going on that line.

The instrument and backsight are set up, we've set the first several rods when?ÿWHUMPF! stopped for a second to look, and the top third of that rotted pine mentioned earlier had hit the ground. We had to remove that rotted pine to set the very next iron. ?ÿEerie as hell.

?ÿ

Not exactly a solo story. Just one more hazard that could be encountered.
