Has anybody used Lidar data in Carlson Survey or would a point cloud processing software be required? I am looking at using some Lidar data with postings of 2 metres.

A few years ago I got the LIDAR points along with the contour lines. The contour lines were way to irregular and Carlson Survey 2004 did not want to smooth them out. There were so many points Carlson did not want to create any new better looking contours from the points, so I just accepted it. Since then I import the herky jerky LIDAR lines as they are and move on. I am working on a project right now that is like many in the past, those crazy lines all fall within 1/2 a contour of field shot points. On this 34 acre site contours range from 788 to 996, very busy. I have verified elevations in the 806 to 940 range. I recall that all the LIDAR contours I have received over the years have all been 2 footers, so this site drawing is very busy. Most of the projects came as shape files and import quite fast.
