Library of Congress, Legal research, Geo. Wash'n map, Gunter's Chain...

Found those things at the Library of Congress...

I started in the Law Library doing a little research on Virginia law just to show how easy it is...

This is a map by George Washington of one of his farms, probably getting acreages of his farms...

What happened was I kind of horned in on a tour group which they had these maps out for (the reference librarian told me to). So I'm talking to a historian there and I tell him I'm a Surveyor so he brings out this Gunter's Chain which he said is 66' long. It came with a very old handwritten book which has instructions on how to figure areas.
