I ran three level lines starting from known points or benchmarks, where I keyed the orthometric heights into the Leica DNA03 Digital Level. After importing the lines into Leica Infinity 3.0.1, I noticed that Infinity altered all the starting known points by 0.0121 ft (3.69 mm). For example, if a benchmark's orthometric height in the Leica DNA03 was 6,000.0000 ft, Infinity changed it to 6,000.0121 ft.

I haven’t checked other points yet, but this discrepancy is concerning, and I’m unsure why it occurred. I am the first person to use this software in my office so I haven't checked all the settings.

Additionally, I downloaded the TRFSET.zip (State Plane Coordinate System and Geoid 18) file from Leica MyWorld to use directly in Infinity and the CS controller.

Do you have any insights into why this might be happening?

Best regards,
Anita

Check your units

6000 survey feet = 6000.012 international feet

@jimcox Well, I took the instrument apart. I'm just kidding. Thank you for pointing out the units. I will tell you what I learned on Monday, but that is a good start.

Hi Jim,

By default, Infinity 3.0 imports DNA03 GSI file format (where level lines are stored) in International ft., even if you set your Units in DNA03 in U.S. ft and your Infinity Units in U.S. Ft. CRAZY!

Infinity 4.6 will do the same if you just drop GSI file in, but if you go through the Import Settings, it will give you the option to change from International ft. to whatever UNITS you want.

Anyhow, Leica said not to use GSI file format anymore. They want me to use LEV.

As you can see, I am a few versions behind.

Thanks for pointing out the International feet and US Feet.

Cheers,

Anita
