Took the Leica 1105 out of the box yesterday and although it has an electronic level, there is a bubble vial on top for getting close.

This bubble is now the size of the circular vial itself and is useless.

Don't have a clue why this happened or if the is any way to shrink the bubble with out a trip to the shop.

Thanks for any help.

Randy

I've had this happen once, and we had to replace the vial. It wouldn't shrink. I think a small crack, that didn't go all the way through, changed something in the bubble. Probably was from coming out of the cold office into the heat over and over and over again and finally cracked, if ever so slightly.

A trick, if you will, is to use the zenith angle as a makeshift vial, and set it on 90°, and spin it 180 and level out half of the error the normal way, spinning back around and so forth, just like you would to adjust the vial bubble.

It works, but GOD it's slow. 🙂 Should be an easy check on the digital level.

Striding levels for geodetic work are chambered so that you can keep the bubble size constant as the temperature changes. Pricey, though ...
