We use the Leica GS15 and TS15 here in Norman. Very nice hardware. We use the GS15 (GPS) a lot more than we use the TS15 (robotic total station). In fact, the total station may sit n the shelf for weeks between uses.

Last week we needed to use the TS and it gave an error message that the "main battery" was dead and shut down. Repeatedly. With every battery we had, which were all just off the charger. The same batteries fit in the data collector, which indicates that they are 100%. So I'm confident that it's not the battery.

I left the instrument set up in the office, with the battery in it, over the weekend. No the problem, which was pervasive on Friday, will not repeat for the salesman.

My question, has anybody had this samre experience? Is there an internal battery inside these things that would have been recharged over the weekend? While I'm happy this seems to have self corrected, I don't want to send this thing out to the field only to have it crap out again.

I have an older Sokkisha SDM3E that is contrary after setting up for long periods.

Every time it takes scrubbing all battery contacts with a pencil eraser.

Perhaps your instrument needs to be connected to the battery for a long enough time time to make an electrical connection or to wake up.

It may have something in the way of a capacitor to reach a charged state before it is operational.

😉

I think I would go into the DC configuration start-up options and de-select the laser plummet and bluetooth connection upon start up.

If this gets the "bad batteries" to launch the total station, it's possible you're not
getting a full charge on those batteries for whatever reason (maybe your power source).
If you have an extra charger with a 12v adaptor, try charging your battery through a
12v power outlet in your vehicle.

I didnt think that the same batteries for the collector (GEB 211 or 212) fit into the TS series. You should be using the GEB221 batteries, which have a larger capicity and greater amp value.

There are no internal batteries. That message means that the regular battery voltage is too low to power the gun. If the GEB212 Batteries are not fully charged your get it or if the GEB221 batteries are lower than about 10 percent you'd get it to.

Since yours fixed itself I have no idea. Have you updated the firmware on the instrument?

The batteries for the collector are the same that run the GS15. They will fit in the TS in a pinch. The TS batteries GS221 are larger and will run the Collector if you don't try to put the battery cover over it. Works just long enough to check the battery charge. Yes, we have the appropriate batteries.

Every computer has a battery on board to power the CMOS even when the thing is shut off or unplugged. When that CMOS battery goes dead you can get random error messages. And these TS's are computers, after all.

I'm quite confident that we have eliminated the possibility that the main battery was the source of the problem. The TS is now working fine with the very same battery in it - without recharging it.
