Hey everyone,
I suddenly realise that I may've posted this in the wrong section. Sorry!
After being out of the game for quite a while, I bought an old Leica TCRA1103+ here in Germany (I'm an Aussie living in Germany). However, I'm having major issues changing the language from German to English. My TPS1100 claims that the "active user configuration file" won't allow me to switch languages, and loading English as a "third language" only solves part of the problem. Here's where my problems start:
My TPS1100 only has one configuration file loaded on it, and I can't find the software I need to create my own configuration file. Leica Survey Office doesn't have an option to create a configuration file, while Leica Geo Office (sent to me directly by a Leica dealer in Australia) allows me to create a configuration file- but not for the TPS1100 series. So I seem to be stuck. At this stage I'd be happy if I could find any other configuration file on the web, load it via the memory card and see if I can then change the language. Any thoughts or ideas?
The second (and much larger problem) is the communication problem. On the off-chance that the language issue came about as a result of someone fooling around with the firmware/bios on the TPS1100, I'd like to update/refresh my firmware. However, I can't figure out how to get the TPS1100 to communicate with my Windows 7 64bit PC. Administrator mode, compatibility modes; nothing works. Both of the aforementioned pieces of software claim that they can't communicate with the TPS1100. I've tried a USB to Lemo adapter. Doesn't work. I've tried both of the common types of the Lemo to RS232 adapters (one with the dreaded "Prolific" chipset and the other with FTDI) but neither of them work. I have since installed a serial com port in my PC- but still no luck. The cable is fine. I pulled my TPS1100 apart and checked continuity all the way to the motherboard. It's all fine.
The interesting thing is that I have since bought an RCS1100 (one man station that communicates through the same data port on the TPS1100 for those of you that aren't running Leica machines) and it works 100%. So there seems to be nothing wrong with the TPS1100.
The other interesting thing is that a friend of mine (a qualified electro-mechanical engineer) used a hyper terminal to send dummy signals to the TPS1100 and then used a com port viewer to monitor the transfer of data. All data flowed nicely into, and out of, the TPS back to the PC without corrupting the signal into machine code. Essentially, we type in the letter "A" and the letter "A" comes back. So, the "communication problem" doesn't seem to be a communication at all. It seems as though the TPS1100 is letting the data pass straight through it but isn't interested (or capable) of processing the data. It's preferring to completely ignore the data instead.
What am I missing? Is there a licensing/registration issue that I'm not aware of (either with the GeoCOM on board software or the Leica Survey Office software)? The PDF attached to the Leica Survey Office software shows a registration option on the start-up screen, but the version of the software I downloaded from the net (I don't have the CD) doesn't show me the same screen or give me an option to register.
The official Leica online portal (My-World) did allow me to download a "key" from it after I registered with them. It's a "L_******.key" file. Does that play a role in all this? Again, I've been out of the game for a long time and desperately trying to play "catch up".
I've been in regular contact with quite possibly the most cooperative and helpful Leica dealer in the world (CR Kennedy in Australia) but his memory seems to have faded somewhat in relation to the 1100 series, so I thought I'd try here instead.
Any help will be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Mick.
