I am thinking of buying the allegro mx with communication module that Cameron Watson has for sale. It comes with Carlson SurvCe 2.62 and has the communication module radio. My very good condition but fairly old Leica TCRP 1205 uses a black TCPS 27 radio because it doesn't have the radio handle or instrument communication side cover. I'll have to plunk down $900 for a geocomm licence (didn't come with the older ones.) Other than that is there anything that will keep me from using an allegro mx and it's communication module to run my robot? I'm trying to figure out anything that could go wrong and really, really want to move to SurvCE! Thanks for any help!
The above is what I have.
Thanks Sarge that would be a big help. Is there any chance that an MX will not work the same as a CE or CX?
The $900 Geocomm charge is a little outrageous, especially since later versions of the 1200 robots came with it as standard equipment, as do the GeoMax Zoom80 robots (rebranded TCRP 1202 / TCRP 1205).
In a prior thread someone suggested that a Leica dealer may provide the unlock code without charge. It's certainly worth a try.
It was my fault for not carefully researching the Leica system.
I don't know why I didn't think of this when we were talking earlier, too many things going at once I guess. I have a 27b radio too. Tomorrow I'll take my radio handle off, hook up the 27b to my 1203 and make sure the MX will drive it in that config. I'm 99% it will but like my Dad always said, don't believe anything you hear and only half what you see. I'll report back after the science experiment and send you a video if you like. Talk more tomorrow. Thanks.
Ok!

For $900 I'd be capable of overlooking who's to blame and inquire of my dealer if they'd provide the code without charge. The worst outcome is that they'd say no.
my GeoCom license was generated by my local rep in myWorld. you might poke around in there and see if you can make some magic happen...
The older allegros (CE and maybe CX) used active sync on your computer based on Sergeant Shultz's link.
I think the MX uses windows mobile. It appears there were some battery management issues that locked up
the instrument when using SurvCE on the MX.

I remember seeing that when I was using an older version. I have two MX's one has version 3.x and the other 4.x and haven't seen that problem.
I can afford a new robot now but not at the time I bought this one from a retiring surveyor on ebay. I spent a lot of time trying to use Smartworx. Definitely not my style of software. I guess I want to at least get some use out of my initial investment. Live and learn.
