Our faithful 399's are suffering the vagaries of age. One of the AT302 L1/L2 antenna's bit the dust last week.

I see there are some aftermarket options. Particularly a Aero Antenna AT2775-42. The seller maintains they will work with receivers that "produces 5 volts and takes the signal from a coaxial cable of some sort".

I haven't been able to find the voltage specs on the 9500. Has anyone used a "universal" antenna with a System 300 setup? A friend suggested that a 502 might be backward compatible as well.

Any thoughts?

Rick

Most Likely Yes

I have 1 Leica AT 202 antenna and 3 AT 502 antennas. The 202 was a very early acquisition and sits high in the outside corner (2" below the ceiling) of my second floor office. I use it to check out and update receivers that sometimes sit for a long time between use. The 502s are used with my Ashtech Z-12s instead of the Whopper antennas with ground planes. I did some long term testing comparisons years ago between the Whoppers and the 502s. I think the 202 and 302 are almost identical. NGS antcal gives the same numbers for both.

As to the 5V that is pretty much standard. Even my ProMark 2 receivers which operate on 2 AA batteries (3V) output 5V to power the antenna. I have hooked up and run the Leica antennas from the PM2.

Thanks, Paul, that's great information.

Looks like a new antenna is in order. The 5/8-11 threaded mount seems standard, so I should be good to go.

I don't remember on the 300 system what the antenna gain was, I suspect the same as most other Leica antennas, you do need to check that out though before attaching just any old antenna. The 502's had around 26 dB gain if memory serves correctly. Trimble equipment OTH, came with around 40 dB gain from the antenna, you will need to match the both the antenna voltage AND gain requirements to the 300 receivers.

There are many antennas that will work, I believe AeroAntenna Technology was the OEM of the earlier Leica antennas and NovAtel (or a subsidiary) is the OEM for the 1200 antennas and newer, or you could likely just use any L1-L2 Leica antenna from a 500 or 1200 system on the older gear. We use a both AntCom and Sensor System aircraft antennas with Leica 500's, 1200's NovAtel receivers and sometimes a Trimble 5700, etc., so they are all pretty universal as long as the voltage and gain match.

Make sure that whatever you get has an NGS calibration available, and you will have to select that antenna when post processing.

Thanks, Shelby.

It looks like the AT302 is also 26dB.
