Hi all

I have a robotic leica 1100 which i would like to link to a windows tablet. The tablet doesn't have a radio so robotic may be out of the question but i would atleast like to be able to link to my 1100 for data collection as i find the onboard software on the 1100 tedious. Does any know if this is possible? I'm guessing a cable from the 1100 to the tablet would be the answer but would need to be lehmo plug to usb (possibly via a usb to serial adapter) which would be clunky? Is it possible to get a bluetooth adapter to connect to the 1100?

The possibility of this being then robotic would be my next question. Any clues would be appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

You'll need data collection software for the tablet, of course, and the software will have to support the 1100. Once you get that piece figured out, you ought to be able to run robotic via a pair of Parani BT radios, but in any case you're probably going to have to connect to the tablet via USB-to-serial cable. My advice is to buy one with a genuine FTDI chip. They cost a bit more, but can make the difference between function and no function.

I use a FTDI USB-to-serial cable to connect my Surface Pro 4 to Trimble receivers without trouble.

Hi Jim

Thanks for that. Yes the software side is taken care of. Ok, bluetooth looks like the way to go. External radio on the tablet was not liking like a clean/easy idea.

Have you tried many different tablet options? Panasonic seem popular but up around the $4k mark in Australia so more than happy to try something more basic cheaper if a possibility.

Thanks

Matt

I probably should have been more specific about my application: the connection between my Surface Pro and Trimble receivers has been for download only, not interactive operation. I've not controlled any field equipment with a tablet, and the Surface Pro isn't a form factor that I'd want to have in the field.
