has anyone ever used a laser level for construction layout? i.e. parking lots, etc.
if not, any reason?
if so, any accuracy concerns? what equipment used?
thank you

Its kind of like pulling teeth with a hammer. Itt'l get it done but not really the right tool for the job.
I keep a Topcon single slope laser and an Apache Storm sensor in the truck. They don't come out often but sometimes it's the best tool for the job.

I use a Topcon laser quite a bit. No problems with it. Just be careful on a job site you might have multiple lasers hitting your sensor. Can cause huge problems.
Check to make sure the Laser is not out Calibration otherwise you could find yourself way out, you should be within the specifications of the Laser. We use Leica units daily they seem to be hold calibration better than most others.
I use a Topcon laser level and receiver on a semi regular basis.
I have gotten very good results with it. I run closed loops with it for elevation certificates and get closures of 0.02 or less. It is great for checking grades by yourself, and picking up additional information solo.
Being a solo operator, it is a great tool to have in the truck. Knowing it's limits, and keeping it in good calibration is important. I don't head off to a construction site or topo survey without it.
Jimmy,
What model of Topcon laser do you run?
Thanks,
One important thing to know for those that have not used a laser level much, If a laser is out of adjustment, it will have a tilted plane.
A level that is out of adjustment .04 low at 150 feet will look low in all directions. That is the reason for balancing shots. A laser will have a tilt being .04 low in one direction and .04 high in the opposite direction.
If you don't use a laser much and want a quick check on a single setup, rotate the laser 180 degrees and shoot it again.
