Done anyone in this forum provide land surveying and real estate services? I am currently a registered surveyor and will be taking my real estate sales license exam as well. Have you had any luck combining the two fields in your business plan?
The company I work for has an owner and a part time secretary that are both real estate agents but, I have never worked with someone that was a licensed agent and a licensed surveyor. I think the trickiest part would be avoiding surveying property that you have an interest in as a real estate agent. There would always be the perception that your survey opinion was influenced by your interest as a real estate agent.
I would also think even if you didnt survey the tract they are buying would be a conflict as well. Well that real agent who showed me the property said this was the property line and he is also a surveyor so he would know. They might say that about anything wrong with the property, that surveyor real estate agent should have known about that easement or fence being over.
I would do one or the other, see which one you like better.
From Paul's second letter to the church at Corinth: for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? or what communion hath light with darkness?
😉
Holy Cow should chime in on this, since I think he has both licenses.
Bill is correct. I've had the real estate sales person license for about 15 years, but, do not actively pursue listings. I do survey work through a couple dozen real estate agencies so have no desire to give any of them a reason to go looking elsewhere. One of the benefits is that the required continuing education for the real estate license fits very closely with what many of us do every day anyway. I've thought of also becoming a licensed appraiser, but have too many irons in the fire most of the time to pursue it. At one point I made an offer to become part owner of an abstract/title insurance office. That might happen yet, if I live long enough.
