Javad's latest pullout ad shows a couple of different approaches to RTK systems. One puts a pair of Triumph-2 receivers together with a Victor-LS data collector, while the other pairs the Triumph-LS with a Triumph-2. Both systems include a UHF radio.

The first system sells for $10,480 while the second goes for $13,130. The less expensive system features a controller that's separate from the receiver, which would seem to be a plus. Anyone know why the more-versatile system is $2,650 cheaper than the one with the combined receiver/controller?

The Triumph 2 has a built-in expiration date, in a sense. It is not L5 capable, but is L2C capable. From what I have researched L2C will offer roughly half of the advantages of L5: increased reception under canopy (so much so it may be 100% reliable, no one really knows yet), highly accurate DGPS, etc.

Once L5 is available you will definitely want it, though.

With 864 channels, L5 capability, Galileo capability, etc. the LS could serve you for the remainder of your career, even if you're in your 30s.

The same is true for the Trimbe R10, etc... this is a problem for the manufacturers. Trimble has somewhat impressed me by developing proprietary solutions and workflows: V10, Gatewing, etc. Innovation and new products with added value is the only way they will stay open.

Didn't mean to get on a ramble there, but JAVAD is jumping on the innovation horse early.

In the next few years when you are tracking 6-8 L2C signals at times, it will most likely be a viable option to perform kinematic surveys DGPS on the fly with decimeter accuracy (even under canopy) and perform a batch post-process against CORS to get centimeter results in one shot. Similar to the way some people do GIS obs. currently.

Do you know if this is going to be compatible with Carlson SURVCE?

No, because the UHF radio at the rover end is built into the DC, and is receive only. Given the price, and how many they may sell, someone will probably cobble something together for SurvCE. Javad even used to sell it on some of his collectors so maybe it will be an option?

Once NGS has the Triumph 2 antenna modeled I will likely buy one just for OPUS-DB work. The potential to use as a network rover makes this a pretty attractive item in my view.

These "Webinars" are inconvenient. (Timing) Is there a place to go and listen when I want to do it?
