David Ingram just recently posted on FB about an instrument that he was reconstructing for a client. He mentioned that he had a choice of vanes to use including one manufactured by "Pool".?ÿ ?ÿ I had to ask where Pool made instruments and within minutes Dave answered "Easton MA."?ÿ ?ÿ

I took a look through?ÿ my "History of Edward Poole", written in 1893 as a thesis for Murray Poole while attending Yale.?ÿ It is a comprehensive history that traces the Pool's/Poole's/Pole's from the Norman?ÿ invasion in 1065 up to Edward Poole, who immigrated in 1639.

Well I found John and Horace Minot Pool(e) in the book!

john and horace

Sure enough, Nautical and Survey Instruments!

Their Grandfather, Lt. Samuel sounds like quite the Gentleman of the times!?ÿ Must have been one upright citizen!

Lt

French and Indian Wars, Revolutionary War and "...worthy of a more advanced period."

I sat down and read through the history book and it reads like a John Jakes epic of American History, including the gold rush, manufacturing in Philadelphia, and the founding of "Pooleville" in NY.?ÿ Several civil war prisoners (died in prison, or in one case, died on the way home after the war ended, from starvation and 'rough handling.')

J. & H.M

I don't know Dave's current Beerleg status, but my hats off to him for bringing this to my attention!

Don Pool(e) ?ÿ
