Paul, I believe that it is a stupid tradition that you place

> monument in the middle of the road. Sure when worked in horse and cart days not quite such an issue. These days with occ and safety plus insurance costs and hostile motor vehicle drivers why then does tradition still prevail? Why not if lodging a plan establish OFF carriageway monuments for recording.

Richard,

In most localities where Paul works it is not Tradition. It is Law. Ergo he would be stupid not to set CL monuments on a new Subdivision.

I did a block in downtown Sacramento. I found dozens of cut crosses in the sidewalks. I had old RP's of record at each of 4 intersections. In the end only one found mark could be proven to fit the old record. The block was controlled by the original granite curb returns and the building walls. All those fit together wonderfully. How many hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate and 30 story buildings does it take to be worth proper survey practice?

New handicap ramps in the sidewalks at ever intersection wiped out thousands of RP's throughout the city and so ends a long era of good mon documentation.

On one of the main arterials south side they had just completed about 3 miles of reconstruction. New paving and sidewalks wiped out every spec of evidence of prior positions. Not one dime was spend on monuments, existing or new.

You guys down there should pursue some licenses because this was a wholesale violation of CA statutes.

Ryan

I totally agree, This is a classic CR that should go through with a cursory check and sign-off, but You never know over there.

I have seen it those questions on a couple of CR's I submitted a few years ago, but it has been better lately. I agree it looks fine and if I was the checker it would be filed as is.
