The paranoia I keep witnessing isn't from being busted, its from being ripped off. At upwards of $3,000 per plant retail, it doesn't take too large of a crop for the dipsquirts to take on a shoot first, ask questions later attitude. The worst problems are coming right at and after harvest when the growers are sitting on a way too valuable commodity.
Legalization, medical or otherwise, has not dropped the value in any signficance to date. As such, even a small crop is a large cash opportunity.
Some years back I thought that the legalization effort would result in a drop in price and a less valuable commodity. Unfortunately that hasn't been the case and instead has resulted in a gold rush chased by a variety of walks of life.

I was told that wearing a vest made me an easier target.
Tongue-in-cheek I'm sure but it sure seemed that was to me on more than one occasion.
One day as a green-horn a car whizzed by me.
I was fixing to send a fastball hammer at them before my party chief stopped.
Yes, we had signage out everywhere as well.

Working in the city once for a consulting group, the boss and I had discussion about being killed by a disgruntled or deranged employee.
We both thought it was certainly a possibility and the talk took a serious turn.
There had been a few employees who passed through that were kind of odd. One PC turned out to be an ex-con who did fed time for bank robbery. Didn't know this to later, much later. He was there when I was hired to take over the survey department and the bosses laid him off a few months after my hire. He got in my face about having him fired.
Another employee was an IT guy who was truly strange. Nice guy but strange and a hacker. Drank warm Mountain Dews by the big liter bottles all day.
We decided to start some back ground checks in the future.
I surveyed in the worst housing projects and hoods in the city and never had any trepidations. Of course I did not work at night.
I don't have to be surveying to have this one do me in. Out walking my hounds the other evening and ran into a young bull moose all full of himself, didn't want to yield to us, ears dropped back and hackles went up. I started back pedaling as fast as I could and picked up a rock. Moose will stomp the snot out of you, scare me more than bears. Chucked that rock from 40 + yards and nailed him right upside the skull. He stared at me in disbelief for a couple seconds and turned and high tailed it out there.
I still got it. 😀
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
The summers heat may very well be the end of me.
Two sips and a dose of AC have been the difference from seeing stars a few times already.
The morning clouds with a 15mph breeze turned into a heat furnace about 12:30pm today.
