Is anyone doing this?

Sometimes I need to receive a coordinate file in the field. If we're far away from the vehicle or have no computer internet access - it'd be nice if we could get the file on the phone email, and then upload it onto the DC directly from the phone.

I can connect the phone using the USB charger into the DC.

It has been our experience that there is no way to store an attachment from an e-mail using an iphone, or to transfer it to another device. Also, IOS and Windows (or Windows Mobile) based devices don't tend to play very well together. Depending on what data collector you have, my preferred method is to activate the WiFi hotspot on the phone, connect to the DC via that, and set up an e-mail account on the DC to receive e-mail and files. It's worth the investment to have an inexpensive laptop in the field, and personal MiFi devices are a great alternative to using the hotspot on the phone - we use them to connect to the RTN, to connect to send/receive e-mail, etc.

We use the hot-spot a lot. It's just that sometimes we're a mile down a powerline, without a laptop. I was just trying to save a long hike back to the truck if I could.

Thanks

Like Lee said, I use an email address on the DC to send files to. That way if someone sends you an email that you get on your phone, you could just forward that email to your DC email or log into your email on the DC, either way. If you have Trimble products, you might want to look at TCC and the Access Sync addon for Trimble Access. I am currently playing around with that now.

Ok, that's what I'm looking for, then. So, I can use the hotspot on the I Phone, to connect the DC to the internet and email, (Carlson Surveyor+ and Spectra Prec. Ranger). Thanks

Bluetooth should be possible but I can't get my TSC3 to connect to my Android phone. Also it should recognise my android phone connected by cable as a portable hard drive (using the larger USB host mode socket) - but it won't.

Accessing the internet on the DC is probably the way to go.

We have been using carlson cloud out in the field to office to send files . You have to have carlson 3.0 and be connected to hotspot .I have good results with it 90 % of the time . But saw a file get corrupted the other day.
