I've been setting up a new computer. Part of it's usage will be dealing with laser scan data in the field, so it's pretty beefed up. 2.4Ghz quad core i7, 16GB ram and a 480GB SSD.
However, I'd rather work on a single database rather than having to combine my data when I get back to the office, so what I've going to do is put my current point cloud databases and other laser scan data on an external Thunderbolt SSD drive.
I'm expecting somewhere above 350MB/s on and off the drive. This should be fun.
