found this cool interview of the Ose family in Alaska. In 1997, I was on the survey crew that completed their boundary survey.. I didn't know they were the last homesteaders in Alaska. They were really neat, still lived in the small shack then, but the log home was beautiful, if not complete. I remember they shared some jello pudding pie with us, which doesn't seem like much, until you think of how much work it took to get those kind of supplies to their home. He made us custom wood stakes with their name on it to set near the corner boundary markers.

Neat story. Did you put all of that survey knowledge you gained from a structural engineer to work up there? 🙂 Couldn't have been too many years after that, could it?
Very cool!
Funny, he is on Facebook!! so we just became friends. small world. in 97, the main house was nearly done, but they still lived in the small shack. I know they used to get college kids up to help over the summers.
