Hi All, and to all a very Merry Christmas!

I have an HP Deskjet 9800, 11X17. When plugged up there are two small green lights that come on in the back near the power cord connection, but nothing else. Power button doesn't work, no lights, no hum, nothing. Could possibly have taken a small lick of lightning.

Worth looking in to fixing?

Stephen

From what I can tell, the 9800 has a built in power supply. There are some 9800's on ebay used for about $100-$130.

If I had to guess, I'd say the power supply was fried. You could look into replacing the power supply, but there's no guarantee that there was not further damage beyond the supply and onto the board. The supply is supposed to sacrifice itself first to protect the more delicate parts, but electricity has a way of making it's own path.

I'd say the only way to be sure would be to have geek squad or HP look at it, but would the diagnostic cost be worth it versus buying a new printer, etc. etc.

There was a post a while back where people were offering advice on the purchase of a wide format printer; could be useful.

I had this same issue with a 9300.

There's a large plastic cartridge type of part on the back that you remove to clear misfeeds/paperjams. If this cartridge is installed incorrectly, printer will not fire up.

Just a suggestion!
