Houston Contract Specs

What if you took only one line of shots and coded (labeled) it 'curb-and-gutter'?

We fixed that with shooting all back of curb's, dropping down, moving over three feet, then going back with the gutters. Made everyone's job lots easier and it is the preferred method for topoing for me. Breaklines are QUICK to enter.

I don't use F2F so I'm sure we're overworking to some degree, but a properly done field survey for topo can be drawn and contoured within an hour of getting back to the office.

> :pissed: How hard is it to take a gutter line and ep shot everytime you take a shot on the back of curb, and also take a gutter line shot when you shoot back of hood and ep of a catch basin! sorry just had to have my friday am rant

F2F

I know you didn't ask, but...

When the crew is told to create the survey on the screen, and given the responsibility to do so, it makes a difference. Then, when the crew chief is responsible to dump the data and plot the sketch, and correct the errors in connections, it makes a real difference.

What you collect in the field is a matter of personal taste and specs. On a cross section we typically get BW (Back Walk) TBC (TopBackCurb) GTR (Gutter) CLR (CenterlineRoad)...(mirror). If I wanted to show EP, I would create an offset to the gutter at so much over and so much up IN THE DATA COLLECTOR. F2F!!!

Not trying to step on toes, but honestly, if the crews are not doing the job you want, the issue is just like a sports team. It is either the players or the coach, or some combination. Your managing skills are needed to make this stuff better. That is what is so revolutionary about F2F. It isn't the time savings, it is the clarifying of who is responsible. AND the empowering of them.

For example: it makes sense some times to shoot two corners of a rectangle. If the rectangle doesn't get drawn from the two points and a note, who's fault? Field guys point to the drafter, and the drafter points to the field guys.

I LOVE F2F. I HATE having to hope someone else makes sense of a bunch of points on a screen.

Sounds like everyone is getting the job done..at whatever the cost.
$=Time/Efficiency*Experience+Knowing what the Engineer needs. Employ tracking and you can improve on all that..Employ linework where needed and you can make greater improvements on drafting. Typically..C/L - 1/4 - EG - FL - TC - BW... x-sec. is an asbuilt for joining existing at project improvements limits and to comply with the local agencies standards plans.

Oh...It's Friday the 13th...third time this year...we all know what happens when you say it 3x 🙂
