I first got into surveying through the NZ Forest Service.
Working for them out of Harihari on our west coast, I got allocated to a surveying crew.
Six months living in old Bill Minehan's "Okarito Beach Motel"
These days Okarito is multi million dollar eco-resort sort of place (or was pre-covid)
But Bill's motel wasn't like that back then.
It was more an old beach house, facing the Tasman sea, with sand blowing in the front door.
I have an image in my mind, but sadly no photos from that period...
yes indeedy. Fly Geyser in 1991. Current photos show it has grown substantially in the last 30 years. I image the stench is about the same??
Maybe I are a tad more sewfistakated than I realized.?ÿ I dined on Beef Wellington on Wednesday evening and didn't even know it until Friday.?ÿ I serve on the Board of Directors for an education service center with nearly 400 employees.?ÿ A couple of years ago we opened a culinary kitchen as a teaching facility.?ÿ The current culinary class prepared the meal for our monthly meeting.?ÿ The vegetables were all from our hydroponics teaching facility.?ÿ It was in an email from one of our department managers on Friday when I learned the "some sort of beef" was Beef Wellington.

Oiishi!
After college the first time, I apprenticed under a Swiss Chef and others, and found a path into Saucier.
That is another career that can be very rewarding if you're with the right people for sure, and a nightmare if you're not.
Buon Appetito!
