I recommend Surveyors and Statesmen: Land Measuring in Colonial Virginia, by Sarah S. Hughes, published in 1979 by the Virginia Surveyors Foundation and theVirginia Association of Surveyors.

Bilby Tower Quest

I'm probably to far away but I could sandblast the tower. Then you could either have it repainted or better get it galvanized (about 25 cents per pound). The galvanizing would last longer but cost more.
