For the benefit of anyone who is interested in the history of Texas surveying, here is a link to A Brief History of the Regulation of Texas Land Surveying (48Kb pdf).

While we tend to think of licensing laws as being fairly modern in origin, review of history shows the land surveying was as a practical matter probably more highly regulated in the 19th century than today.

History of Regulation of Texas Land Surveying Kent

Did tsps retain you to write new literature for them or were you just bored?

Decent read though. You should get ken gold to co-author it with you.

You're welcome. I find that posting a document on the internet is an excellent way of discovering the remaining typos and awkward sentences. Having just reread that draft of the chapter from my link, I see that I am not disappointed this time, either. :>

History of Regulation of Texas Land Surveying Kent

Paraphrasing from the translation of an old Spanish Law regarding Land Surveyors in Trinidad, "... and upon each map the Surveyor shall affix his signature in order to convict, if necessary."
