Very well written giving a good description of surveyors and monuments in history. Have worked in WA Co and will say their records and monuments make surveying a joy.

unfortunately, that sounds like that low-baller's ad that said they'd mark the corners with "special surveying ribbon...."

>When surveyors "remonument" a corner, they try to create or refurbish at least one dozen reference points in the vicinity. To that end, Michael carefully measures the distance from the granite slab to each of the markers and monument trees recorded during the 1982 survey.

at least a dozen reference points? I am a big fan of recording the monument location and installing reference marks, but I have never set a dozen. Maybe that is standard practice in other states?

I saw that too.....

I like to see a minimum of 4, but a dozen seems like overkill.
