Oh how I miss that place!!!! :'(

W did the hike up to Diamond Head and got pics of that same marker. I didn't get to do it because I had messed up my foot. Next time I will!!! 😀

The "Farrah is a fox" in that bunker cracks me up...hehehe

Did you go snorkeling in Hanauma Bay?? Freaking awesome place!!!

I like the prickly pear cacti up by Makapu'u Point.

Round top I have never been to but will do on the next trip there. The view is spectacular as seen from your pics!! B-)

Got any other pics from the trip?? I never tire of looking at Hawaiian photography. :-$

Small world, we just got back from our trip also, we spent 7 nights in Honolulu. We came home the day after Thanksgiving. I'll have to plan my trips around survey markers like you do. 😀 Its weird, I was on the platform on Diamond Head and thought what a great place to set up a total station, but I never looked down to see the marker.

The bench mark F11 is about a block from the hotel we stayed at, and the Quicksilver store in the photo is a place we shopped, but I never noticed the benchmark. I don't know if you noticed or not, but in the stones the make up the sidewalks along the street with all the stores, some of them had Hawaiian words with the English translation etched in them.

I did notice some survey markers at different places, most of them just boundary corners. I noticed one at the corner of the Army Museum that was marked with a brass disk.

We went snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, it was pretty good, lots of colorfull fish.

Looks like you had a great trip, we did and my kids had a blast. A bad weather day in Hawii is better then the best weather any where else, or so they say.

David

We arrived in Honolulu on Thanksgiving evening and hiked up Diamond Head the next day (Friday, 25th). We stayed at the Waikiki Embassy Suites just down the block from bench mark F 11 and half a block from the military museum. We probably crossed paths! we came back on Friday, November 30.

It is a small world. We stayed at the same place you did. It was nice, me and the wife had our own bed room and the kids had theirs. Breakfast was pretty good in the mornings also. We eft the day after Thanksgiving, so we were in the hotel at least a day you were.

Did you ever go to the "Managers Special" during the evenings. It was free drinks and some snacks. They had a band play a couple of nights we were there. They played quite a bit of classic rock. There was a guy the played the ukulele that was pretty good. He did a pretty decent job playing Santana's Smooth song. He could make that thing sound like a lead guitar.

Yep, breakfast every morning and free drinks every night at the hotel listening to the four-member family band. I referred to the chef making the omelets on the left side of the breakfast area as the "Omelete Nazi". No expression whatsoever. The first bartender at the bar mixed the drinks about double the amount each time. Jenny had to finally tell him "half the alcohol", just so it was drikable. I got a cup of Sprite and watered down mine each time. Good times!

Yeah, I remember the omelet guy, a younger Hawaiian looking kid. He was good at flipping omelets, but you couldn't get him to crack a smile.

There was nothing like the masses of sweating bodies jammed together on the stairs. As shown here, only the hard core(?) take them anymore.

If you want to see dramatic differences in terrain, drive the Hana trail on Maui...

Here's another shot of Diamond Head taken from water level during a snorkeling trip to the turtle nesting area off Oahu.

Excellent photos and also the gallery layout.
Reminded me of running the Honolulu Marathon years ago...Spent the next day resting in Hanauma Bay, you could tell who the marathoners were. The ones hobbling around the beach barely able to walk.
