Dave came up to do his SPC seminar for about 50 PA PLSes who are members of PA-PLS.
PA-PLS was formed to provide economical continuing education credits for PA surveyprs who are tired of the PSLS high prices. PA-PLS has gone over 200 members and the ball is still gathering speed. They havealready had some other successful programs and more are on the schedule.

Join up and receive emails about upcoming seminars.

I do not have the full list but there is a Lehigh Vally chapter, Lower Susquehanna who sponsored Dave's seminar, the Black Rock chapter (coal region) who have had an Easement seminar and are scheduling another.

Carl ?

It is a continuously updated version of the standard NGS introduction to SPC that has been around for years. Since I never needed CEUs before I never paid to attend it.

PA-PLS is trying to keep a standard flat rate of $50 for 4 hours. In that way the 2 year requirement of 24 credits can be accoumplished for $300. That is less than 2 years dues for PSLS on top of which a similar seminar would be $200.

I just got the flyer for this years PSLS Conference in Hershey, PA next January. Annual Dues $190, early 3 day registration $670 members, $825 non members (up to 24 CEUs), $132/night for room, $25 breakfast, $50 dinner, the $35 dollar lunch is included in registration. One day registration is $400 lunch and 8 credits.

Hershey is relatively close for me but very far for other PSLS members. I am no longer a PSLS member. Dave's Seminar was in York, PA farther for me than Hershey, but it was Dave and well worth the trip. The goal is for each Chapter to have a minimum of 1 seminar per quarter in the Chapter area, giving more than enough opportunites for 24 credits. Because of the timing of the law it is necessary to gather up 2 years credits within 1 year. That may require an out of area trip or two.

There is no fixed dues for PA-PLS, almost everything being on the Net. The founder Nick Remy is pleased to report his postage cost at zero. The Seminar fee goes for seminar site costs, speaker costs, coffee, other drinks, pastries, snacks and site costs, with the leftover going into the kitty for fixed costs, web site fees, etc.
