We have a project where we are to add topographic data from another source to our boundary information.?ÿ Don't worry, there will be plenty of disclaimers to address who to shoot if some of that topo data turns out to be incorrect.

Here's the problem.?ÿ We have been provided information documenting that certain benchmarks were used as the basis of the raw data from which the contour lines have been drawn.?ÿ Out of thousands of shot we have finally been able to find one that is on a hard surface (top of a 1/2" rebar) that we can shoot to verify agreement.?ÿ Thirty acres of rough ground shots and only one shot to check out.

A third surveyor was involved earlier for the design/build of utility extension to the site using the same benchmarks.?ÿ We like his benchmarks.?ÿ But, the new sewer flow lines at the two manholes adjacent to the tract differ from the plans in the 0.7 feet to 1.0 feet range.?ÿ Questions will be asked to determine why this happened.

One more reason why I keep telling myself to stay away from construction projects.?ÿ Especially those that will have a minimum of four different survey firms involved.

?ÿHC?ÿ Suggest best put note on plan that levels?ÿ from x sources. Now all levels shown are reduced to one?ÿ (yours)benchmark datum .?ÿ Then colour code each surveyors levels on your plan show also your level connecting to all BMs to?ÿ tabulate computed level variations?ÿ used to present your plans. then run like hell on presenting plan.

I would also cross their surveyed?ÿ areas with a few random shots shown as your colour coded levels. If ok a good check, if not recommend to client?ÿ that you gather levels at a cost, especially if flat or prone to flooding. If cl;ient buck then get them to sign a waiver that says so.radu

Agreed. If we HAVE to include third party data then we ensure all those points are clearly identified. If we are asked to apply any shift then we add a table to show exactly how the shift was calculated; also include table of your values and previous values on any common points.
