Grid/Ground Distance Settings

Hi I'm looking for some info on grid and ground distances.

I've been using Topcon Hiper V's with a FC-5000 for about a month now. When I configure coordinate systems, there is a?ÿcheck box for "Use grid/ground distance." I've always understood these distances to be unique, how can they be the same setting?

That option is for a user-defined?ÿscale factor and/or offsets.?ÿIf not selected, and you are using a predefined Datum with Grid Projection, then the computed scale factor will be applied to distances only.?ÿ Never scale coordinates.
