I have not been survey for as long as some of you (8+yrs), but in all that time we have only had a 12 car battery taken a time or two from a RTK base setup. And this occurred in Shelby county, TX. We have worked in large cities of Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, etc. Just a car battery or two will working.

Now we did have a survey truck, full of equipment and a trailer w/atv's stolen from the Hotel while the crew slept. That hurt and is why you carry insurance. The truck was found abandoned in a mall parking lot three months later, striped clean.

I once was asked to pick up a new hire at a hostel in Anchorage as my new rodman. He was a pleasant, eager Latin youth freshly frozen from Miami. He came complete from the Surveyor factory with shiney black leather gloves and matching boots which I'm sure were all the rage in South Beach. Anyhoo, every time we would break for a survey rig lunch, he would break the TS, BS set-up and load it in the rig. I asked him why? He said "they come by on bikes and grab". I could not break him of this habit. It seemed genetically instilled in him. Sadly his employment with our firm didn't last.:-(

Yup, you gotta love cows.
They love to rub up against white survey trucks. Puts nice wrinkle type dents.

Also never get between a babysitting cow and calves she is watching.
