I bought a Patagonia belt, like the one in the ebay link below.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Patagonia-Tech-Web-Belt-Black-NEW-FREE-SHIPPING-/360691279027?pt=US_CSA_MWA_Belts&hash=item53fae024b3

I absolutely love it. It cannot use a regular buckle, but infinitely adjustable, and not subject to stretching when wet.

I recommend 1-1/2" wide. (You can get 1" wide)

I may get an extra, to use around a bundle of rebar, and stakes.

This seems like a very useful tool, for surveyors. I also wear suspenders, due to all the stuff on my waist.

And, I just found this web site. I think I could cobble together some stuff, for tying my other stuff together.

Besides, the kids need stuff like this too! 🙂

I have been wearing a belt like this since about 1980:

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/braided-nylon-western-belt

They are getting hard to find. Anytime I ask about them at a western wear store, the response is usually "those are not in style anymore". My reply is "Do I look like I care about whats in style?"

I put my own belt buckle on them, got it for Christmas about 1976.

I've had one of those belts and a gun sling in green & black since the late 70s.

The gun sling looks just like new and the belt looks great and has been thru several buckles.

I like long belts like that 58" to hold machete, plumb bob and a pouch to carry over my head on my opposite shoulder.

😉

Made a leather belt in 73 that I still use to carry my plumb bob no longer have a tack ball attached to it's case and 25 foot tape, used to carry more. It's 2 1/2" wide with a long narrower tongue that will go through the buckle so I can use it in the summer or in the winter over several layers of cloths. Lot softer today than it was then, I expect it to last long as I will be needing it. Had a friend that used a military web belt with suspenders, he could put a bunch of stuff on it including a pistol. It was cheap, easy and quick to get on and off and it was a better setup than mine for carrying loads. Suspenders might be what I need to keep my pants up today, they keep working down, never had the problem before.

Love it. Who cares about style? I say make your own style.

Once had a minor accident. The paramedic said I might need a stitch or two to close the gash above my nose. "Unless you don't care if it leaves a scar."

I said to the guy: "Have you seen my face? Do you think I care about a small scar above my nose?"

It does help to have a sense of humor, especially when you are bleeding.

Psssst, check your local army/navy store and look for rigging straps. I had one for years until a 31" waist was no longer an option. If I recall, I cut about 3' off the original strap, and paid about 4 bucks for it.

These days I have a really good range belt in nylon that will hold up a bunch of stuff in the pockets.

Here's my day-to-day belt:
Cabelas Last Chance Heavy Duty Belt

and even my suspenders:
Hickman Suspenders
I get complements on the suspenders and inquiries for where I got them.
I use the snap buckles for everyday wear. I plan on ordering the button-holers for my dress pants.

I wear a 5.11 tactical belt I got at a uniform store. It is nylon web, 1.75" (0.15') wide and has a plastic friction buckle. I like it a lot. I can go through a metal detector without taking it off. I used to be able to wear it through airport security but now they tell me to take it off anyway.
