From "Google streetview Belgium available" by Christ Lambrecht's post below - got me to thinking, has anyone else been photographed by google earth or an aerial? I know of two instances where surveyors (or at least their trucks) could be seen in a g.e. aerial photograph.

Here is one. Can you guess what they are doing?? Free turkey sandwich (in your own fridge) to the first correct guess.

If you think about it, there should be a lot of photos of surveyors at working - unless they are slacking! 🙂

I can imagine the day may come when a client could complain that since they didn't see a crew working on their site in g.e. that they won't pay for all the field crew time.

Years ago I was wondering about being seen from on high when I crawled off the cat and relieved myself miles from anyone on the ground or doing the same when doing some riding 40 miles from a town. Reached a point where I no longer wonder or worry about it. Seeing rigs or people on Google is common.

I'll take a guess ... setting up an RTK base on a DOT or NGS control monument.

A friend of mine found himself on Google Earth standing in his garden. But only from a limited viewing angle with a range of tilt and azimuth. If he moves the view a little, he disappears.

This isn't new at all. I have a 1950's picture of my grandmother and cousin (could possibly be me) actually looking up at the plane that took the aerial view, one of those where they were selling pictures of farmsteads.

A friend of mine owned an auto repair business on a commercial strip. He heard a helicopter hovering so he went outside to look up at it.

A few days later a salesman came by to sell the photos the helicopter had taken and they had a really good view of him standing in front of his business looking right at the camera.

Hi,
For myself I know of 3 mobile mapping cars passing me while surveying.
nr. 1 at work for the Flemish GIS Agency to set up a database with all traffic signs. these Images are available for the municipalities and when you pay for it.
nr. 2 for Google Street View at work near Ghent, the pic some posts below
recently nr. 3 in the harbor of Ghent - pictures not published yet, and could be a private project.

From the aerials it's hard to see what's happening down there if you were not on the spot at the moment, could be any truck to me.

There's a lot of controversy over here for the moment, a lot of people have the feeling that it is all to public/published now. Fear for thief's, they can prepare their robberies from home without preparing on site ... to easy!

we have an option here to make Google blur your house!

I remember one time my wife was with me while I was setting aerial targets. It was a hurry up job because the flight coverage had been expanded at the last minute and the plane was scheduled to arrive at any time. We were out in the boonies for one panel and my wife decided it would be safe to relieve herself. Just about the time she assumed the position I hollered "I hear the plane don't look up and they won't know who you are!" I wonder if it really was the plane or just some plane that happen to fly past?
