Received the strangest call from Client #1 a few minutes ago. This is the client who asked that I keep confidential why I was surveying for him. The adjoiner is my rather frequent Client #2 for whom I am currently engaged in two other surveys. Today he wanted to know how many acres would there be if we were to split off a specific portion of his lot. I bet the adjoiner has approached him about selling them the "damaged" area.
This is a little like the time many years ago when a friend had me survey his property and house. He owned the west half of XXXXX and his neighbor owned the east half of XXXXX. His neighbor had noted that his lawn was considerably smaller than my friends. Son of a gun, my friend's house foundation was about five feet over the property line and the corner of his roof was eleven feet over the line due to the house orientation. That little strip of ground suddenly became very, very valuable to the neighbor. Both guys had purchased their homes after the houses had been built, yet never noticed the apparent difference in property size for several years.
