Perhaps the less-than-enthusiastic responses may be an indication of something, but I do not think it indicates that anyone is a sheeple who just accepts things they are told - please bear with me on this....
People are not always as passionate about things as others. Seeking to debunk something from a group like flatters may not be as high a priority for some folks as others. I read a book about it for entertainment purposes, and not driven by any deep concerns; otherwise no peg in the game as so much of our modern world works, as evidenced in our daily lives, in manner that support the physics a globe.
That there is some small number of people out there that believe that one particular flatter notion - so the "controversy" over it has no real bearing on the lives of many people; if I was to hazard a guess I would say that to be the majority. Does not really having a stake in this matter mean that folks are uncaring mindless blindly following sheep? I cannot see how that would possibly be earnestly concluded.
This may not be a controversy in the eyes of many (most, a vast majority, nearly all but a very few), and that they choose not to invest their time in it should bear no ill will to those who feel they must take this one on. Those who do want to fight battles with those flatters should be respected, but I would hope that those who see no reason to participate should be respected as well.
Gavin, I get what you're saying. I haven't posted here very much. I was only expecting just enough enthusiasm to press a thumbs up button, nothing more. I didn't expect to get such a Facebook type of response. There's a crap load of very slick, very well produced flat earth videos out there. I'm not debating these nimnods. I make that very clear in my vid, but, some of the comments here are well to be kind about it, no better than what you hear from flat earthers. But I don't care about any of that. I only put forth the effort I expended as a result of watching 2 particular videos spouting off mathematics of curvature, entirely wrong. It got my attention and I chose to respond with my answer. My sharing that here is for anyone that might be intereted. For those not interested, I have as much desire to discuss it as I do flat earthers, none.

My answer to those flat earth videos incorrectly showing the formula to compute curvature from the line of sight rather than correctly from the horizontal reference established as the line perpendicular to the plumb line at the observer's location -

If you really expect to convince any of those clowns...
That was my immediate reaction as well. It has some real truth. But I think that there are some not-so-scientific minds that read some of their rhetoric, and say to themselves "that makes sense" (without being one of the fanatical posters or cultists). I decided it doesn't hurt to have an intelligent mind coming on and debunking their conspiracy.
After scanning through a lot of the video, I am sure to watch it in its entirety later. (Another issue I have are a lot of surveyors who use GPS and math formulas without much thought as to the real analysis behind them. I like someone who walks you through the background and math behind their work as well.)
Good thing Mr. T-2 posted on here, he probably got more people watching and appreciating his video for the work he put in to it than he would have anywhere else.
(And I don't completely disagree with you. A large number of his audience probably watched a few minutes and started in on their rebuttal)
In the mean time, kudos to Mr. T2
I wonder if your video will make it to all the four corners of the earth. 😉
Thanks Tom. I appreciate it.
I need to add a bit of humor to our dialog:
"I want to hang a map of the world in my house, and then IÛªm gonna put pins into all the locations that IÛªve traveled to. But first IÛªm gonna have to travel to the top two corners of the map, so it wonÛªt fall down." Mitch Hedburg
I just checked the score. With 261 views only since Tuesday night when I posted it, there are 14 thumbs up and 12 thumbs down. Don't vote for me, vote for sanity and rational thinking .... click the up button friends 😉
366 views, the flatearth lovers have pulled ahead with 19 thumbs down versus 16 thumbs up .... time to pull out the big guns and post something on LinkedIn maybe 😉
So, you are tying to not be outnumbered by the clue less .... I did go watch some of their vids as I do like to look at both sides, it was entertaining, is all I really got out of it.

Who me Norm? No - - you , me and every other reality based thinker. We're out numbered and surrounded by the gullible masses. My entertainment in this fun exercise is just to gauge the magnitude. You're better at this than me, I can't stand even a few seconds of their nonsense. It was only those couple vids showing formula all wrong that got me out of my seat and willing to step up to speak some truth.
Over 400 views now in 3 days. 19 thumbs up, 20 thumbs down.
Some yrs ago, maybe while rpls.com was up, I took the position, that I was trying to recruit more flat earthers, amongst surveyors. I was butting beads, at the time, with other surveyors, who were doing absurd surveying..... Maybe the 2 go together, you know, tongue in cheek. I thought I was being absurd, I guess I assumed that modern flat-earthers, were doing the same, just cutting up, and being silly.
The way I've got it figured, flat earth, and bad surveying go together.
Maybe that's what's wrong with some BOR's... They are flat earth anarchists!
Well there's a contradiction if ever I heard one, anarcists lumped in with flat earthers ?

There are ALL kinds of anarchists.
My dad was opposed to computers. Still does not like them...

You're misapplying anarchist. That would be a technophobe. Look up anarchist and you might discover you're one. It's nothing more than someone that lives by the nonaggression principle, as in, live and let live. Nothing more.

Actually Tom, I wish it was as you stated, that I would get support by mentioning my video here over anyplace else, but it appears to me not to be the case, with over 600 views now but only 22 thumbs up to the 26 thumbs down. Nevertheless I appreciated reading your supportive post. By the way, even though my video focuses on correcting the flat earther's misapplication of curvature formula, I believe it's also worthwhile for the historic perspective I present describing how early triangulation revealed much about what we take for granted today as we rely on GNSS.

Seems they've taken their toll on you.
