I have not seen any mention on here of the upcoming FIG working week in Orland at the end of May.?ÿ
https://fig.net/fig2023/index.htm
I have been going yearly (mostly, missed 3 years) since 2006, and this is the first time it has been in this hemisphere since 2001. I participated in the lobbying to get the conference here in the US. It must be voted on by the member countries, typically a few years in advance. The first time we tried we lost out to South Africa. The concern from many delegates was getting visas to come here. We were finally successful, and this year it will be in Orlando. We were able to get the votes by promising help with visas, which Sen Marco Rubio is helping with.?ÿ
Ever since I started in surveying I have tried to attend as many conferences as possible, my first ACSM was around 1982 or so. Once they discontinued those, I started going to FIG and have been the US delegate to Commission 6 (Engineering Surveys) since 2006.?ÿ
Wednesday May 31 will be NGS day...

Always a good time!

Might see you. The wife is presenting and I will be wrangling kidos at the pool I believe. We are thinking it might make a good mini vacation for the girls. A lot right now depending on my back but hope to see you around.
Hold the phone. What is this about your wife presenting? Inquiring minds need to know.
As I recall, he has said his wife works at NGS.
@holy-cow yes she will be doing some presentation. I don’t know how many from the office will. So she came up with the idea to surprise the girls with a mini vacation. I said sure thing. So if i can make it we will fly down and she will do her work stuff and Me and the kids will enjoy some fun. I think the topic is on Training and educational stuff. She is the brains of the family. I am just the trophy husband lol. Not. I think she saw a mangy cur homeless dog and felt sorry for me and took me in.
@bill93 that’s correct. She handles a lot of training stuff when she has time from keeping me out of trouble. If you ever signed up for any webinars or online or in person training at the NGS training center you probably emailed with her. It is how we met to be honest. A state advisor now retired I was working with and he watched me do some training asked if i were to come to see NGS training and give some feedback. Well she saw how cute i was and never let me go. I have been held hostage against my will now for years. . Honestly I am a very lucky man. She is one good woman. I am the real smart one I married up way up.
Fascinating information. Guess I had not picked up on her connection. Figured you had her out greasing the baler while you were off surveying something or other.
I also am bringing some tag-alongs...wife, my daughter, her fiancé, my 2 year grandson, the nanny and the nanny's boyfriend...
@holy-cow yeah right. If I even asked her that I might become a square bale. Lol. Actually she does help like driving tractor as i load bales on wagon or drive truck and trailer. My 12 year old is more comfortable pulling the wagon and trailer though. So the wife and I usually pick up the bales.
We'll be there. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
There are three of us from Field Ops that are going. This will be my first FIG presentation, should be fun.
@johnmay The wife sais hello. I wish i were going to learn but I will just be playing in the pool I reckon. Making sure the kids don’t add critters to it and scare everyone off.
@base9geodesy you mean i get to see you twice in a couple months. Oh boy my liver is going to be mad at me. Lol.
Should be fun - livers are bad and must be punished.
@base9geodesy After the convention when I got home. The wife just said naughty boys punish themselves. But I had fun catching up with people i had not seen in years. Hopefully I will see you again soon.
