Photo was taken with an iPhone through the lens of a Sokkia Set 3. Taken in 2010. Enjoy
Nice.
I expected to see Kent lounging outside the local Taco Bell with a dozen tacos, mild sauce and a Sprite.

It always makes me wonder when I am having a little trouble if big bird is hangin out at the base.
where are the rattler pics? don't know about you, but i've seen more rattlers this year than in the last 10 years combined. 8 in about the last 2 months, including three in about 10 minutes in a field down in san marcos a couple weeks ago.
and the poison ivy this year seems to be on a whole different level too- that's after i was crying about it last summer. haven't ever seen it like this.
I nearly lost a ZMax sale in 2007 when they would fix with wandering elevations. When I setup a local base, they were golden, but when we connected to the client's base, they were whacked, even with only a 1 mile baseline.
I agreed to take them back, but then discovered this:
After crow removal, all was well. I think we glued some long plastic spikes on to the top of the antenna.

On some occasions, I will stack a lath for BS, especially when it requires a lengthy return to retrieve a tripod BS setup.
Made for many long day because of critters climbing or landing to have a place to perch.
Days like that need a three man crew to keep check on all equipment sites.
A horse made the most damage to any of my setups. Original fence was at least 6 feet farther from the road before pipeline cause fence upgrade to be over control point. Broken tribrach clasp mechanism, end pulled out of antenna cable bent leg on tripod.
These wild critters encounters are worth whatever time it takes to get back on track.
Just keep reminding yourself that this is the client's critter and can do what it wants, surveyor has to work around the situation and continue without bringing any harm to the natural flow of the habitat.

Looks like a Florida Red-shouldered Hawk. I love those things because they eat squirrels. (which I hate)
Probably not getting the greatest reception with the Hawk on the receiver or the crows on the base. Cool pictures. Thanks for sharing
I don't spend much time in the field anymore so I haven't seen any rattlers lately. Although I've been on jobs where they were thick, so I sympathize. I imagine with all the rain this spring the Ivy is pretty intense. That stuff is one of the many reasons I got licensed.
Worst damage ever caused to my setups came from cows, trucks, and user error. I always hated bringing home banged up equipment.
Red-Shouldered Hawk is correct. They can do some damage to a dove in mid-flight also. Pretty awesome animal.

i HATE THOSE THINGS HAWKS BECAUSE THEY EAT SQUIRRELS. I am a Squirrel Hunter. We hunt them with dogs. Just kidding about the hawks.

I love to hunt the squirrels with dogs, but I don't have a good dog that isn't gun shy so I just stalk them. Squirrel dumplin's are my absolute favorite.
When I was young, I would stay with my grandparents in the summer for two weeks. My grandfather died when I was 15 and he was 82. I would always ask for them in the summer and we always had them. It wasn't until years later I realized the old man would go get his grandson a mess of them and to hell with the game laws cause the boy wanted some. 🙂 Out of 5 grandkids, I was the only one who spent time with him like that. I loved it and all the hunting and fishing I did with him. Wish I'd had more time. He was born in 1909 and so much knowledge passed with him that I wish I had as a 38 year old now.

Hell you don't need any dog's for squirrels in Florida, a bag a peanuts will generate enough squirrel meat to last you a good while. 😉

Wont work around here - all the bags are used to pay the surveyors
