Ok, I am pretty much a novice at GPS. Finally learned to spell it! Been having trouble with my DC. I am running Hiper Ga/Gb’s and had an issue of them not talking to each other, apparently they each thought they were the base. So off to the shop they go. They come back working, for a week. Soooo, tech dude in Anchorage has me plug the DC into my computer and he romps thru the thing. All the radio frequencies are ok and he suggests that we don’t pick the base from the Bluetooth search, but rather manually pick the base. Ok, fine. Send my guy out, everything is hunky dory, for a while. Then Jim calls me from the field, screen has something on it that he’s never seen. I go out, a little perturbed ‘cuz it’s raining, and by golly, he’s right! “Unable to create point” WTF? So I shut it off and restarted and it comes up with this little crosshair icon then tells me to carefully click on it as it moves around the screen. I do all that and it still will not create a point, either as an as-built shot or a stakeout shot. Techy tells me I need to buy a new DC, as the FC120 is out of date. Huh? So to finish up the job, I pull out the old 48 with just the GX data collection software in it (Can’t find the one with Survey Pro) and it works fine with the total station, even being 25 years old! (the 120 won’t even work with the TS!) What’s up? Am I missing something obvious? Operator error? :excruciating: o.O
TIA

We had an FC 100 for 5+ years and the screen died. Without researching enough, I went out and purchased an FC 120 thinking it would be 20 better than the FC 100. (My amplifier goes to 11 based on the same logic).
We kept getting error messages as the FC 120 is actually 20 worse than the FC 100. After talking with the sales guys who said they had to do some research to realize the FC 120 just cannot handle the most recent versions of TopSurv, we negotiated a deal to purchase an FC 250. It worked just fine until we upgraded to an FC 2500 which is an awesome DC, but I do not think it is 2400 better than the FC 100.
I would buy a Carlson data collector . I had a Topon 250 , and Topcon 2500 . Bluetooth was an issue with both . Screen and Keyboard went out in the 2500 cost me 1200 bucks to fix it. Topsurv has abunch of bugs in it and Topcon did not want to hear about it. I sold the data collectors cut rate and moved on . Bottom line is it is all garbage . They make great instruments but the software is still lacking .
