Gurley Surveyor's Surveying transit or level Tripod
There are three more from the same seller at the same price. I bet if you bought all five they would give you a break on the shipping.

Wow, what a deal at LESS THAN A GRAND each! Unfortunately for me, you obviously saw them first and mentioned this deal in a public forum without realizing that there were folks out there who would outbid you for a once-in-a-lifetime bargain like this. My personal sense of ethics prevents me from doing this, but I'm not so sure that this will be universally true. I mean, even if you pay $1200 for one of those tripods, you're still well under ten thousand. Buy all three for under $3500 and sell them for $30,000 to the Smithsonian and you've made a quick $26,500. I will accept a commission on the sale, though, just so you know.
Only one problem ....
with your plan Kent - the Smithsonian is not buying things these days because of sequestration.
Other than that, sounds like a plan. 🙂
I have the fancier adjustable-type legs for my Gurley.
I didn't pay $900 for the whole rig plus 4 more transits and legs.
And, I got some old drafting tools thrown in.
Geeez, you had me going there Kent! I suppose the red/white patina adds value. I'll add that feature to my old stiff legs tonight!
One of them is a Durley, it says there. But I know it's a fake, because the picture shows the embossed "W & L. E. Gurley" in the top of the base.
Mighty fine.
